Labor silences catch limit concerns
MEMBER for Whitsunday Amanda Camm MP, has condemned the Queensland Labor Government for silencing critical debate on Spanish Mackerel catch limits.
“Last night in Parliament, the Government cut the debate short, so Members like myself couldn’t raise critical issues like data integrity, lack of Government transparency or tell the story of the many fishers in my electorate and how they will be impacted”, Ms Camm stated.
Tony Perrett, the Shadow Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry stated that the debate was to provide Members of Parliament the opportunity to raise issues on behalf of their constituents and expose a stock assessment process that has been widely criticised.
“This was a callous decision by the Labor Government to deliberately cut short critical debate on yet another important issue for Queenslanders and proves Labor has given up on listening and does not act in the best interests of Queenslanders”, the Shadow Minister said.
Ms Camm and the LNP have been listening to concerns raised by the fishing industry since the Government first flagged the new Spanish Mackerel regulations.
“I’ve sat around the table from our local fishers, many who are about to lose their ‘super’, their livelihood, and unfortunately for some, their will to live”, Ms Camm stated.
“This government does not care about small and family businesses. Regional Queenslanders and our fishing community deserve better”.
